Homeopathy is a holistic medicine which uses specially prepared highly diluted substances (given mainly in tablet form) with the aim of triggering the body’s own healing mechanisms. A homeopath will prescribe remedies according to the patient’s specific set of symptoms, and how they experience them while taking into account their overall level of health. Based on the principle of treating like with like, a substance that can cause symptoms in large doses can be used in small safe amounts to treat similar symptoms. Remedies can be made from plant, chemical, mineral or animal sources.

Homeopathy is also an individual medicine, the consultation being our route to discover, like a detective, how this patient experiences their particular symptoms and what effect that has on their overall health. The speed with which we find the most appropriate remedy depends on us asking the right questions and on the patient being as generous with their information as possible, it is a partnership.

Wendy Haslam has been with the Society of Homeopaths since she was a clinical student and completed her registration with them after she graduated in 2005. Their website contains information and further reading plus a list of their registered members.
